1. Register as a volunteer:
Click the button above if needed OR if you volunteered during registration skip to step 2.
Please ensure each volunteer has their own account with a unique email address (youth volunteers or partners must have their own account or be added and accept an invite to the primary account)
2. Complete a background check:
Once you register as a volunteer, you will receive an automated email from Sterling Volunteers. Follow the link and complete the background check. Be sure to check your spam folder for the email. For troubleshooting, please see these instructions.
(Youth referees will skip this step)
3. Complete the Safe Haven, CDC Concussion Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Arrest courses online:
Login to your account by clicking the "Log-in" button at the top of this page. Click the Volunteer menu on the left, and find the "AYSOU" button under your name on your Volunteer page. On our training site, click "Training Library" on the left. Under "Safe Haven Courses" click "View Courses"
Complete the Safe Haven Online Course
Complete the CDC Concussion Awareness Online Course
Complete the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Online Course
4. Complete the appropriate training course (online and in-person portions):
To referee 6U, 7U, and 8U games: Complete the 8U Official Training Course online and attend a short in-person session. To register for the online course, login to your account by clicking the "Log-in" button at the top of this page. Click the Volunteer menu on the left, and find the "AYSOU" button under your name on your Volunteer page. On our training site, click "Training Library" on the left, then under "Refereeing" click "View Courses", then Enroll in and complete the course titled "AYSO - 8U Official" prior to attending the in-person session (see the right side of the page for dates and times).
To referee 10U and above games: Complete the Regional Referee Training Course (this is a two-part course: an online module and an in-person training). Login to your account by clicking the "Log-in" button at the top of this page. Click the Volunteer menu on the left, and find the "AYSOU" button under your name on your Volunteer page. On our training site, click "Training Library" on the left, then under "Refereeing" click "View Courses", then Enroll in the course titled "Regional Referee - Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)." This will give you access to the online training portion. You must also register for the in-person session in AYSOU by clicking on "Training Event" on the left, navigate to the dates for the in-person course you will attend and enroll in the in-person course.
Youth Referees: You must be at least 10 years old to become an 8U Official (to referee 6U, 7U, and 8U games) and at least 12 years old to become a Regional Referee (to referee 10U and older games). Please refer to the instructions above to register.
5. Complete the SafeSport training online (only if you are 18+):

If enrollment key does not take you to the safe sport course you can click on the three lines in the upper right, then select "Dashboard", then cow Click "Course Catalog" and enroll in the "SafeSport for US Soccer Federation" course. For more information about SafeSport, see this document.
